What to Hand Out at the Strawberry Festival Parade

Every year at the Florida Strawberry Festival parade, I see the same thing happen.

Businesses invest time and money to walk the route, they hand out thousands of items, and by the end of the parade you can see most of it scattered along the sidewalk. Candy wrappers, crumpled flyers, cheap plastic pieces that did not make it more than ten minutes.

If you are going to participate, it should be strategic. The goal is not just visibility for one afternoon. The goal is to create something that makes it home with people and keeps working for you long after the parade ends.

Here are the items that consistently perform well for local businesses.

Branded Keychains

Keychains are simple, but they work. Everyone carries keys, and most people are not picky about adding another one if it feels solid and looks clean.

An engraved wood or acrylic keychain with a bold logo and an easy-to-read phone number can live on someone’s keys for years. That means your brand travels with them to work, to the grocery store, to the gym, and everywhere in between.

The key is restraint. Do not overcrowd it. Make your logo large enough to read and choose a high-contrast design so it is visible at a glance. Parade crowds do not study details, so clarity matters.

Bottle Openers

Bottle openers are one of the most underrated promotional items for a parade. They are small, practical, and easy to hand out in bulk. More importantly, they get used.

A simple engraved bottle opener tends to end up in a kitchen drawer, a cooler, or a work truck. That is exactly where you want your business name to live, especially if you are a contractor, restaurant, HVAC company, or service provider.

People keep things that solve small problems. A bottle opener solves one instantly.

Magnets for Home Service Businesses

If you are in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, or any type of home service, magnets are still one of the strongest local marketing tools you can use.

A clean fridge magnet with your logo and phone number can stay visible for years. When something breaks, people do not start searching through drawers for a random flyer. They look at what is already in front of them.

Magnets work particularly well in local markets like Plant City because people tend to hire companies they recognize. Familiarity builds trust.

Small Branded Notepads

This one surprises people, but small notepads perform extremely well. A simple 25 or 50 page pad with your logo and contact information printed at the top creates repeated visibility. Every time someone tears off a page, your branding remains.

These are especially effective for offices, work trucks, teachers, church staff, and local organizations. They feel useful, not gimmicky, and useful items are rarely thrown away.

Koozies as a Secondary Option

Koozies are common at Florida events for a reason. They are lightweight, affordable, and easy to distribute. That said, they are not special anymore.

If you choose koozies, focus heavily on design quality. Keep it bold, high contrast, and uncluttered. A poorly designed koozie will get dropped quickly. A clean one will still make it into a beach bag or cooler. They are a solid option, just not the only option.

Why You Should Pair Promo Items With Print Marketing

Promotional items create recognition. Printed marketing creates action.

If you hand someone a keychain or magnet, consider attaching it to a small postcard or rack card that includes a specific offer. That might be a first-time discount, a seasonal promotion, or a QR code that leads directly to a landing page.

When people get home and sort through what they collected, the printed piece gives them a reason to actually reach out. Without that next step, you are relying on memory alone. This is where a lot of businesses miss opportunity. The item builds familiarity. The print piece drives response.

Is It Too Late to Order?

Not necessarily. While it is always helpful to plan ahead, many local businesses realize close to parade day that they need something to hand out. We handle last-minute orders every year. Depending on quantity and artwork, quick turnaround is absolutely possible.

If you are unsure what will fit your budget or timeline, it is better to ask than to assume it is too late.

Make It Intentional

The Strawberry Festival parade is one of the biggest local events of the year. It is a chance to show up well and represent your business professionally.

If you are going to invest in walking the route, make sure what you hand out reflects the quality of your work. Choose items that feel useful, well-designed, and intentional. Those are the pieces that stay in homes, on refrigerators, and in trucks long after the parade ends.

If you are participating this year and want help choosing something practical that fits your budget and timeline, we are always happy to talk through options and help you build something that actually works.
